Leading Quality Improvement in Obesity Care: A Practical Workshop for Translating Evidence into Reliable Clinical Practice
Friday, May 14: 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM, Temecula Ballroom
*Qualifies for CME/CE/MOC Credit (3 credit hours). Pre-registration required. Additional fee at registration check-out.
Workshop Description
Obesity is a serious, progressive chronic disease, yet diagnosis, documentation, patient engagement, treatment initiation, referral, and longitudinal follow-up remain inconsistent across clinical settings. The central challenge is not only knowing what evidence-based obesity care should include; it is building reliable systems that make appropriate care easier to deliver for every eligible patient.
This highly interactive three-hour workshop equips endocrinologists and multidisciplinary endocrine care teams to improve the delivery of person-centered obesity care. A longitudinal obesity-care case and practice-setting variants connect every teaching segment and workbook exercise. Participants may apply the methods to the shared case or to a comparable obesity-care gap in their own organization.
Using the AACE Implementation Roadmap and AACE Implementation Blueprint, participants will define an implementation gap, assess the current system, identify essential stakeholders and root causes, build a SMART AIM and driver-based change strategy, design a first Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle, select a minimum viable measure set, and establish immediate next steps. Concise faculty instruction is followed by case application, individual project work, peer consultation, and faculty coaching.
Participants will leave with a minimum viable draft obesity-care QI project: a defined opportunity, focused current-state assessment, essential stakeholder plan, AACE Implementation Blueprint, first PDSA cycle, practical measure set, and 90-day launch plan. The AACE Quality Improvement Implementation Guide supports deeper analysis and continued development after the workshop.
Target Audience
- Endocrinologists and obesity medicine clinicians
- Advanced practice professionals and fellows
- Division chiefs, medical directors, and clinical champions
- Quality leaders and practice administrators
- Clinical pharmacists, registered dietitians, and diabetes care and education specialists

Learning Objectives
- Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Apply the AACE Implementation Roadmap and Implementation Blueprint to a system-level obesity-care implementation gap.
- Assess your current health system using a focused process map, stakeholder perspectives, barriers and facilitators, and root cause analysis.
- Construct a draft Implementation Blueprint that connects the gap and problem statement to a SMART AIM, system drivers, implementation strategies, and balanced measures.
- Design a small-scale PDSA cycle and minimum viable measurement plan using outcome, process, balancing, and implementation measures.
- Identify essential sustainability actions and develop a plan for launching the obesity-care QI project.
